Does CenterWell Accept Your Insurance Plan? Medicare, Medicaid, VA

CenterWell Senior Primary Care accepts Original Medicare and most Medicare Advantage plans, according to the company’s own materials.1CenterWell Senior Primary Care. AEP – CenterWell Senior Primary Care The question of what insurance CenterWell accepts has a short answer and a longer one. The short answer is Medicare. The longer answer is that the specific Medicare Advantage plans accepted depend on which CenterWell clinic you visit, because contracts are negotiated location by location. If you carry commercial insurance without a Medicare component, CenterWell’s senior primary care clinics are generally not built for you.

Original Medicare and Medigap

If you have Original Medicare (Parts A and B), you can be seen at CenterWell. Most of what happens at a primary care visit falls under Part B, which covers outpatient care, doctor visits, preventive screenings, and diagnostic tests.2Medicare.gov. Parts of Medicare Original Medicare has no network, so any provider that accepts Medicare assignment is open to you, no referral required.

A Medigap (Medicare Supplement) policy works alongside Original Medicare to help cover deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments that Medicare doesn’t fully pay.3Medicare.gov. Compare Medigap Plan Benefits Because Medigap follows Original Medicare rather than running its own network, your Medigap plan applies at CenterWell the same way it would anywhere else Medicare is accepted.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage (Part C) is where CenterWell sees most of its patients. These plans are sold by private insurers and must cover at least what Original Medicare covers, often adding dental, vision, or hearing benefits.5eCFR. 42 CFR Part 422 – Medicare Advantage Program CenterWell accepts most Medicare Advantage plans, including plans from carriers other than Humana.6Humana. Humana Introduces CenterWell as the New Brand for a Range of Its Payer-Agnostic Health Care Services Offerings

Two things to know here. First, CenterWell is the healthcare services division of Humana, so Humana Medicare Advantage plans are reliably accepted at CenterWell locations. Second, Medicare Advantage plans use networks, and networks are location-specific. An HMO-style plan usually requires in-network care to be covered at all; a PPO-style plan allows out-of-network care at a higher cost. So even if CenterWell “accepts” your carrier in general, what matters is whether your particular plan lists your particular clinic as in-network.

Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs)

D-SNPs are Medicare Advantage plans built for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. Humana offers its own D-SNP products,7Humana. Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) and CenterWell locations that take Medicare Advantage generally accept D-SNPs too, though again availability depends on the plan and the clinic. If your D-SNP is from a non-Humana insurer, call the clinic before you book.

Medicaid on Its Own

CenterWell’s senior primary care clinics do not list standalone Medicaid as an accepted insurance type. The stated acceptance is Original Medicare and most Medicare Advantage plans.1CenterWell Senior Primary Care. AEP – CenterWell Senior Primary Care Medicaid rules and benefits vary by state because the program is jointly funded by federal and state governments and administered at the state level.8MACPAC. Administration

If you are dual-eligible, the practical route is usually a Medicare Advantage plan (often a D-SNP) that includes your CenterWell clinic in its network, with Medicaid picking up premiums, copayments, and deductibles that Medicare doesn’t cover.

CenterWell Home Health, a separate service line, does reference Medicaid as a possible coverage source. If you’re looking for home-based care rather than clinic visits, that’s a different conversation and worth having with CenterWell Home Health directly.

Veterans and PACE Participants

Veterans who use VA healthcare may be able to see a CenterWell provider through the Veterans Community Care Program when conditions like long wait times or excessive travel distances apply. The provider has to have a contract or agreement under the program.9eCFR. 38 CFR Part 17 – Veterans Community Care Program Whether a specific CenterWell clinic participates is something to confirm with the VA or the clinic.

The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) coordinates medical and social services for older adults who would otherwise need nursing-home-level care, blending Medicare and Medicaid funding.10Medicare.gov. PACE Most participants are dually eligible.11Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) Whether CenterWell is part of your local PACE program depends on whether the PACE organization in your area has contracted with them.

Pharmacy and Home Health Are Different

CenterWell isn’t only clinics. Humana also runs CenterWell Pharmacy (including a specialty pharmacy) and CenterWell Home Health, and each has its own insurance rules.

CenterWell Specialty Pharmacy is in network with most Medicare plans and accepts non-Humana insurance. Medicare beneficiaries with limited income may qualify for the Low-Income Subsidy, also called Extra Help, which reduces Part D prescription drug costs.

CenterWell Home Health provides in-home rehabilitation and healthcare. For qualifying patients over 65, home health services may be covered at no cost under Original Medicare. The home health arm also lists Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and private insurance as possible coverage sources, so its acceptance is broader than the primary care clinics.

How to Confirm Your Plan at Your Clinic

Because accepted plans vary by location, there’s no single national list. The reliable way to check:1CenterWell Senior Primary Care. AEP – CenterWell Senior Primary Care

  • Go to CenterWell’s website and click “find a location near you.”
  • Search by center name, city, state, or zip code, choose your clinic, and click “view details.”
  • Scroll to the “Accepted Plans” section and open the drop-down to see the full list for that location.

If you have a Humana Medicare Advantage plan, Humana’s Find Care tool will show in-network CenterWell providers.12Humana. Find Care For non-Humana Medicare Advantage plans, your insurer’s own provider directory is where to look.

Have your insurance card in front of you when you call the clinic. Ask three things: is your specific plan in-network (not just the insurer), do the services you need require prior authorization, and what’s your expected copayment for a standard visit. “Accepted” and “covered at the lowest cost” aren’t always the same, especially with Medicare Advantage tiering.

If You’re Paying Out of Pocket

If you don’t have insurance or choose not to use it, the No Surprises Act requires providers to give you a good faith estimate of expected charges before any scheduled service. Schedule at least three business days in advance and the estimate must arrive within one business day of scheduling; schedule ten or more business days out and it must arrive within three business days.13eCFR. 45 CFR 149.610 – Requirements for Provision of Good Faith Estimates If the final bill substantially exceeds the estimate, you can dispute it through a federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.

For specialty medications, CenterWell Pharmacy runs a financial assistance program that connects patients with more than 175 funding sources, including nonprofit foundations and drug manufacturer programs. The financial aid line is 800-486-2668. For self-pay rates on a primary care visit, ask the local clinic directly.
