To cancel TruStage AD&D insurance, call TruStage at 800-779-5433 and ask the representative to terminate your policy. There is no online cancellation button, no email form, and no self-service option in the account portal that ends coverage; the policy owner must call.1TruStage. Managing Your Policy Details FAQs
What to Have Ready Before You Call
Pull together your policy number (on your certificate of insurance or in your online account), a form of personal identification the representative may ask about, and the date you want coverage to end. The agent may ask why you’re canceling. You don’t have to give a reason, and declining won’t block the cancellation.
Before you hang up, ask for a confirmation number and request that written confirmation be sent to you by email or mail. That confirmation is your proof. Without it, you have nothing to point to if charges continue. Write down the date and time of the call and the representative’s name too.
Turn Off Automatic Deductions as a Backup
TruStage AD&D premiums are typically deducted automatically, and those deductions won’t necessarily stop the instant you make the call. Log in to your TruStage account, go to Payment Overview, and select “Manage Payment Plan” to stop automatic deductions.2TruStage. Managing Your Policy Payments FAQs
This is a safety net, not a substitute for the phone call. If you only stop payments without formally canceling, TruStage may treat the policy as lapsed rather than canceled, which can trigger collection attempts for unpaid premiums during the grace period. Make the call first, then turn off autopay.
Your Free Credit Union Coverage Stays Active
Most credit union members with TruStage AD&D hold two layers: a complimentary policy at no cost through the credit union, typically between $1,000 and $3,000, and an optional paid policy with higher benefit amounts.3TruStage. Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
When you cancel the paid policy, the complimentary coverage is not affected. It continues as long as you remain a member of a participating credit union. Some policyholders cancel everything out of frustration with billing without realizing they’re giving up a free benefit they’d otherwise keep.
Will You Get a Refund
If you just purchased the policy, you likely qualify for a full refund under the free look period. Most states require insurers to give you at least 10 days after receiving your policy to review it and cancel for a complete refund, and some states extend that window to 20 or 30 days. TruStage’s own materials reference a 30-day window for certain policies.4TruStage. Do You Get Money Back After Term Life Insurance Ends
Outside that window, refund eligibility depends on how you pay. Monthly premiums are almost never refunded. If you cancel mid-cycle, coverage stays in effect through the end of that billing period, but you won’t get money back for the unused portion.
If you’ve prepaid on an annual or semi-annual basis, you may receive a prorated refund for the unused months. TruStage calculates the refund by subtracting the cost of the time you were covered from the total you paid, and administrative or processing fees may reduce the final amount. Ask the representative during your call whether any refund applies to your situation and when to expect it.
Confirm the Cancellation Went Through
The confirmation number from your call is a start. The real proof arrives when TruStage sends written acknowledgment by email or mail, stating the effective date your coverage ended and confirming no further premiums will be collected.5TruStage. Contact TruStage for Policyholders
If nothing arrives within about two weeks, call back. Processing errors happen, and the worst version of this scenario is discovering months later that you’ve been paying for a policy you thought was canceled. Keep everything in one place: the confirmation number, any emails, the date you called, and the name of the person you spoke with.
After receiving confirmation, check your credit union account or bank statement for the next two billing cycles. If a charge appears after the confirmed cancellation date, contact TruStage immediately with your confirmation details and request a reversal.
If You Change Your Mind
Reinstatement may be possible, but the process varies. In some cases it involves an application and paying the difference in premiums since the policy lapsed. In others, a medical exam or updated health information may be required.6TruStage. What Happens if I Miss a Life Insurance Premium Payment
The window to reinstate is limited, and TruStage does not publish a universal deadline. Call sooner rather than later. Wait too long and you’ll likely need to apply as a new policyholder, which could mean different rates or terms. Your complimentary credit union AD&D coverage doesn’t require reinstatement, since it stays active as long as your membership does.
