The fastest way to get your Anthem insurance card is to log into your Anthem account or the Sydney Health app and pull up a digital version right away. If you need a physical card in the mail, you can request one online or by calling 800-676-BLUE (2583), and it arrives within 10–14 business days.1Anthem. What To Know About Your Anthem Insurance Card
Get the Digital Card First
A digital ID card works the same as a printed one and is available the moment your online account is active. Open the Sydney Health app or sign in at anthem.com, and your card is there to view, download, email, or fax to a provider.1Anthem. What To Know About Your Anthem Insurance Card Most doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies accept digital cards, so this is usually all you need to prove coverage at an appointment.
Save a screenshot of the front and back to your phone as a backup. That way you can hand over the information even if you don’t have a signal in the building.
Set Up Your Anthem Account If You Haven’t
The digital card lives behind your online account, so registration is the first step if you’re new. Go to anthem.com/register or download the Sydney Health app and choose the option to create an account. You’ll need your first name, last name, and date of birth, or you can register by uploading a photo of your member ID card if you already have one.2Anthem. If registration stalls and you don’t have a card to upload, call Anthem’s Technical Help Desk at 1-866-755-2680, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.2Anthem. Member Secure Application – Anthem Blue Cross
Print a Temporary Card for an Appointment
If a physical card hasn’t arrived and you have a visit coming up, print a temporary one at home. Sign in to your Anthem account, click Customer Care, and select Print an ID card.1Anthem. What To Know About Your Anthem Insurance Card The printout carries the same member information a provider needs to verify benefits and file claims.
Request or Replace a Physical Card
Anthem mails a physical card once your enrollment is confirmed. If yours never showed up, got lost, or was damaged, you can request a new one two ways:
- Online: log in to your Anthem account, click Customer Care, and select Request an ID card.
- By phone: call 800-676-BLUE (2583) and a representative will process the request.
Replacements arrive within 10–14 business days.1Anthem. What To Know About Your Anthem Insurance Card Anthem’s site does not list an expedited shipping option, so rely on the digital or printed temporary card if you need proof of coverage before then.
What’s Actually on the Card
Providers ask for a few specific numbers off your card at every visit:
- Member ID number — your unique identifier for benefits and claims. If a billing office asks for your “subscriber ID,” this is what they mean.
- Group number — the same for all employees on an employer plan, and it points the provider to the right benefit structure.
- Copay amounts — some Anthem cards list the fixed dollar amounts you owe for services like office visits or prescriptions.1Anthem. What To Know About Your Anthem Insurance Card
If Your Card Never Arrived
Two things hold up card delivery more than anything else: enrollment that isn’t fully processed, and a bad mailing address.
On the enrollment side, Anthem won’t issue a card until your coverage is active. For an individual or family plan bought through the marketplace or directly from Anthem, that usually means the initial premium payment has to clear first.3Anthem. Initial Premium Payment For an employer plan, your company’s benefits administrator handles enrollment, and processing can take a few weeks. If nothing has arrived in that window, ask your HR department where the file stands.
On the address side, update yours through your Anthem account or the Sydney Health app before you request a replacement, otherwise the new card goes to the same wrong place. Employer plans sometimes require the address change to go through the benefits administrator rather than Anthem directly. After updating, request a fresh card so a new one goes out to the correct address.
